Leonard Kessler nació en 1921 en Ohio, estudió fine art en Carnegie Institute de Technology y fué sargento durante la II guerra mundial recibiendo el corazón púrpura y la estrella de bronce. Junto a su mujer Ethel Kessler escribió e ilustró más de 5o títulos e ilustro más de 200 libros.  Juntos realizaron en los años 50-60 libros de autor como  Mr. Pine’s Purple House , The Day Daddy Stayed Home , Splish Splash!Do Baby Bears Sit in Chairs? ,Whats Inside the BoxNight Story.

En la estética compartida por muchos ilustradores de los años 50-60 , podemos ver un destacado uso de la línea y la composición de la página a partir de ella. Formas simples y un uso puntual del color. Personalmente me gusta el trabajo de Kessler porque las ilustraciones están siempre al servicio de la historia, la apoyan y la amplían delicadamente.

I’m a children’s book author and illustrator. I teach illustration and organizes creative workshops with children and adolescents in Spain, where I was born and raised, and in Italy. I had published over 40 children’s books including You and Me, Me and You (Chronicle books 2017) Les Farfelus (Les Fourmis Rouges 2015) , Sing me a song (Edelvives 2015) Una jirafa mia (Sm Brazil, 2014), Un caramel Amarillo (Edelbra Brazil, 2014),, Cuentos para dormir y soñar (Edicio- nes SM, 2012), El papá que no sabía contar cuentos (Pintar-Pintar, 2012), Cyrano de Bergerac (Repubblica-Espresso, 2011). I received awards including the Bologna Book Fair Mention, 2010-2012, Children’s Show N.o 9 of 3×3 Magazine of Contemporary Illustration 2014 and 2016 ,The Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles West 51 Mention, The AOI mention of Illustration 2016. Golden award at Association of illustrators of Los Angeles ILWEST55 2017 and illustration selected by New York society of illustrators 59 annual and exhibit 2017. I live in Milan with my wife Federica and our two sons, Pablo and Javier. Born in Extremadura, Spain. He approached his childhood reading and became devourer of images, stories and books of Salgari and Mafalda. In 1999 he left Seville to attend the School of Visual Art in New York (USA), the summer school of Zavrel Stepan in Sarmede (Italy) and classes with Octavia Monaco in Bologna (Italy).
